CASE STUDY 1 – Major Project £100M

Full Quantity Surveying Services for a Specialist Main Contractor on a design, build and maintenance project on a Target Cost, Partnering Contract basis.

A 5-year delivery programme, requiring the introduction of new technology on the railway and the installation of equipment, cabling and associated route-works.

A multi-disciplined project, delivered by means of in-house resource and Sub-Contracts. The Sub-Contracts were let under various forms including Partnering Target Cost, Design and Build, Design only, Install only and the provision of labour resources, which was managed by the in-house resource.

The project was let at circa £80M and the final account was agreed at circa £120M.

Port Associates responsibilities included

developing and negotiating the initial Target Cost including risk register

preparation and agreement of variations

preparation and agreement of extension of time

cost management of risk register

tendering sub-contractors packages

post contract management of sub-contractor works

preparation and agreement of monthly applications for payment

external reporting including cash flow and earned value

internal reporting including Cashflow and CVR's

CASE STUDY 2 – Small Project £150k

Providing QS services to a small package contractor requiring the preparation of applications for payment and the agreement of final account with the Main Contractor.

CASE STUDY 3 – Project closedown

The preparation of final accounts for completed works on a Measured Term Framework contract. The service provided involved reviewing draft accounts, checking the measure and auditing against internal valuation and costing systems. Individual projects ranged from £5k to £200k, totalling £10M

CASE STUDY 4 – Supporting workload peak

Supplying a Project QS on a 2 days a week basis to support a varied workload including the preparation of quotations from a schedule of rates. Reporting into the clients QS

CASE STUDY 5 – Full services for a business unit

Full QS services to a business unit supporting a range of projects ranging in value from £50k to £3M, annual turnover circa £10M. Supplying a Senior QS on a full time basis plus additional resource on an ad hoc basis when workload dictates

CASE STUDY 6 – Added Value

Our client was developing a delivery capability in one particular growth market. Whilst providing post contract QS services Port Associates developed an estimating tool to support this work type. The estimating tool is an excel spreadsheet and it was developed through the analysis of site information and closely working with the project management and site management team. This tool has been used to secure 2 major contracts worth £1M and £7M as well as a number of smaller projects. Port Associates continues to provide post contract QS services for this work
